InfoAge Visit 2022

Table of Contents

On Saturday, July 23rd, the David Sarnoff Radio Club, friends, and family will visit InfoAge Science & History Museums in Wall Township, NJ. Exhibits open at Noon, and close at 5 PM.

The day was selected to allow us to practic moonbounce with the 60′ parabolic dish at the InfoAge Space Exploration Center “ISEC”. We will visit the ISEC portion of the site starting at 2 PM.

In addition to museum visiting, starting at 8 AM, the New Jersey Antique Radio Club will hold their annual Swapmeet, at InfoAge’s main building.

Why a Field Trip?

We thought we might forego the videoconference “Virtual” club meetings until September, and instead gather for a number of club activities. The InfoAge Science & History Museums are a collection of different displays, interactive museums and classrooms near the Jersey Shore. This field trip is open to hams and family and friends. The museum has something for everyone.

The facility is located at 2201 Marconi Rd., Wall, NJ 07719. This is just west of Belmar, NJ, and easily accessed via NJ Route 18, Route 522, Route 33, and Route I-195, just east of the Garden State Parkway. The ISEC is just south on Marconi Road.

Note that portions of InfoAge may require masking due to COVID regulations.

Schedule for Saturday, July 23rd

8 AM: New Jersey Antique Radio Club Swapmeet at InfoAge (ends noon)
11 AM: Informal gathering at Roadside Diner, Routes 33&34 (westbound) for Breakfast, Coffee or Early Lunch (See below for directions)

We operate at 1296 and use CW of course and USB for voice.   We have a Kenwood T2000.
We do have JTSW for digital but we won’t be using it on that day because that system won’t be available.
After 2 PM: Return to InfoAge for more informal exploringn until 5 PM
Afterwards: Perhaps meet at Roadside Diner (Routes 33 &34) for pie or dinner.

About the Diner

Rebecca, K3RPM suggested The Roadside Diner which is about 10 minutes away for us to gather informally. It opens at 6 AM, for those going to the Swapmeet.

The diner is on the west side of Wall Township, nearer to Freehold, where Route 33 and 34 travel together between “the merge” and “the circle”. The road is divided there, so if you are heading east you have to go past, then around the circle and back up to the diner.

If you are coming from I-195, go north on NJ 34, and turn onto 33&34, and the diner will be on your right.

GPS: 5016 State Route 33 & 34 Wall, NJ 07727-3620

Drive alone or carpool?

If you are interested in carpooling, leave a comment below saying which activities you plan to attend, and where you are coming from.

Who’s Coming?

Even if you aren’t carpooling, please leave a comment so we have a rough count for the 2PM Moonbounce demonstration/operation.

Note that our website is a target of hackers (who have been stopped so far), and we may have to shut down the comments and use e-mail.

Looks like I might be able to make it. I’ll stop by the diner at 11 am and stick around for InfoAge and ISEC. Not sure about dinner – maybe.
